As I got reading, I realized that this book was mainly about people trying to find themselves and the narrator pointed out that most of the time people try to find themselves through other people. Most of the topic that are brought up throughout the book are things that every person deals with at one point in their lives. I would recommend people to read this book, because it makes you feel like your not alone in what goes on in your life.

Duplesis Question

How was it that you came to be interested in poetry and how did you start to write it?

House of the Spirits

The "House of the Spirits" novel was a great book to read. Throughout the book they talk about Mr. Trueba's life and how he came about doing everything that he had done. I found myself getting frustrated at Esteban for some of the decisions that he was making; for example when he would rape the poor women of Tres Maria's, but then he wouldn't let his daughter be in love with one. This book's main topic is ideology and about how Mr. Trueba always has to have power of some sort or another, whether it be with Tres Maria's or his family, or even in politics. I would definently recommend this book to read.

Antigone

If I had to rewrite Antigone for a topic that faces the society today, then I would have a topic about sexual preferences. This topic, sadly enough, is still a big issue for everyone today. The story would be about a young woman, who realizes that she is a lesbian. She falls in love with another woman, but is too afraid to tell her family. Her family is very religious and believes that you should marry the opposite sex, instead of the same. At the end of the story, her family would disown her. I would have two non-famous woman playing the roles. I think that this is a topic that will face us for years to come.

Gregorio Cortez

The story about Gregorio Cortez was very interesting. It was about Gregorio and his brother moving to a different town and the sheriff of that town shot Gregorio's brother, so Gregorio shot the sheriff. Gregorio then fled the town, running from place to place. People were very nice to him ever though he had shot many people. At the end of the story Gregorio turned himself in,but wan't charged with murder, but stealing and was sentenced to 99 years in prison. Gregorio spent only about a year in jail, until President Lincolns daughter got him free. Finally Gregorio was poisoned and died. The interesting thing about this story is that many different people tell the story, but it varys from person to person. I would recommend reading Gregorio Cortez.

Blood Wedding

Blood Wedding is a love story about two people who used to be engaged and then seperated. Leonardo is the man that is getting married to the woman who was priorly engaged. The man that was priorly engaged is already married. The wedding takes place and afterwards the woman and man that used to be engaged run away together, leaving Leonardo and the other man's wife, in search of them. At the end of the story they were found and the man was killed, and the woman was begging Leonardo's mother to kill her. This was a pretty good story about, in my opinon, how you will always be in love with your first love and no matter how hard you try, you will never ber able to forget about them. The only troubling part about this story, was the fact the Lorca made the moon a character in this story. I really didn't understand that part of it.

The Awakening

The Awakening, by Kate Chopin, was a pretty good book. I think that Edna was lost throughout the story and was having a hard time finding herself, and that was why she committed suicide. Edna's husband, in my opinion was controlling and was very interested in have a great deal of material items and that was what bothered Edna so much. Kate portrayed Edna as a women, basically with no thought of her own, and I think that, that was the main point of the story, that women back in those times were controlled by their husbands and had to do everything they said. Edna just wanted to love someone who loved her. Mr. Pontellier did love her but she did not love him in return. I think that this book was geaared for women readers more so than men, because most women can relate to Edna.

The Yellow Wallpaper

The Yellow Wallpaper was a very difficult piece of literature to try and read. In my opinion, I think that if Frederick Douglass's book would have been published by someone else then it wouldn't have had such a big impact on me. I've never really realized how it was back in the day when people could buy slaves and what their masters actually did to them. If this story would have been fictional rather then written by himeself personally, I don't think that we would have realized what slaves had to go through and how much work they did, and how much they didn't get to see their loved one's. Thanks to Frederick Douglass, I now understand, just a little bit about the life of a slave and how badly they were treated.
